Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Program Fact Sheet

Who Can Apply?

Applicants who own or control the land agree to implement specific eligible conservation practices according to the contract schedule.

What Conservation Practices are Eligible?
  • New (Micro) Irrigation (Systems)

  • Alley Cropping

  • Deer Fencing (use exclusion)

What are the Payment Rates and Terms?
  • Program payment rates are calculated at 75% of the typical cost of implementing the practice. Payments are made after approved conservation practices are fully implemented.

  • Producers may contribute to the cost of a conservation practice through in-kind sources – including personal or donated labor and use of personal equipment.

  • The maximum annual payment is $50,000 per participant

Other Requirements

Contracts will not exceed five years, and the conservation practices must be maintained for the official lifespan of the practice, regardless of the length of the contract.

When Can I Sign-Up?

NRCS will only accept applications until the March 28, 2008, sign-up deadline.

Planning/Contract Funding

An NRCS conservationist will help you develop a plan of conservation practices for your operation. A contract is then developed based on eligible conservation practices in the conservation plan, and is ranked on how well the proposed practices meet national, state, and local environmental objectives.

How Do I Get Started?
  • Contact your local USDA Service Center

  • Applications will be selected for funding based on the ranking evaluations. If your project is not selected, you still have the conservation plan to use at your discretion, and can apply again as new funds become available.
