2008 Agricultural Management Assistance Program Sign-Up Announced
Margo L. Wallace, State Conservationist for the U.S. Department of
Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in
Connecticut has announced that applications will be taken for the agency’s
Agricultural Management Assistance (AMA) Program.
According to Wallace, “AMA provides cost share assistance to agricultural
producers to voluntarily address issues they face on the farm.” “The practices
allowed for this year’s sign-up,” said Wallace, “are new (micro) irrigation,
alley cropping (pot-in-pot nursery planting), and deer fencing.”
NRCS will accept applications until COB on Friday, March 28, 2008. All funds
must be obligated as contracts by July 1, 2008.
AMA allows up to $50,000 per year. Contracts must be between three and 10 years
in length, and end one year after the last practice is applied. The cost share
rate is 75%.
