Ecological LandscapingWhat is the Focus? To work with the Ecological Landscaping Network to promote natural ecosystem functions through design and implementation of landscaping measures and education of landowners. What Does NRCS Offer?Coordination of technical assistance, demonstration site creation, workshops, educational materials. What is an Example of Ecological Landscaping?VERNON/TOLLAND, CT – The Tolland Agricultural Center was the first demonstration site of the Ecological Landscaping Network. The center had mixed uses including a main parking lot, buildings, woodlands, wetlands, overflow parking, lawn, a pond and stream, and facilities for workshops. It had the potential to offer many components of ecological landscaping such as drought-tolerant perennial gardens, rain gardens for storm water management, pervious overflow parking areas, invasive plant species control, lawn alternative examples, native plantings, and organic vegetable gardening. Using a collaborative process, parties that utilize the center were brought together to learn about each others needs and desires for the site. A master plan was prepared from these meetings. Who are the Partners?
