Invasive Plant Awareness and Management

What is the Focus?

NRCS in Connecticut provides educational materials and expertise on invasive plant identification, issues, and management approaches/techniques for the benefit of the general public, town commissions, and partner groups working to control the spread of invasive plants.

What is an Example of Invasive Plant Awareness and Management?

GRANBY, CT – A workshop, sponsored by the Salmon Brook Watershed Association, Granby Conservation Commission, Granby Land Trust, and Holcomb Farm Learning Center, was held at Holcomb Farm in Granby. The one-day program provided a classroom introduction to invasive plant issues and an array of management techniques/approaches, followed by an outdoor session involving identification of common invasive shrubs and vines, a visit to an area where control had been implemented, and a hands-on experience in removing Garlic Mustard and other invasive herbaceous plants along Salmon Brook. Participants received handouts on invasive plant identification and management, and information on where to obtain additional copies.
