Municipal Regulations ReviewWhat is the Focus? To help multiple municipalities understand the regulatory tools they have in place to address natural resource concerns. The review process enables communities to see the relationship between existing regulations and the vision outlined in the plans of conservation and development, as well as the relationship to regulations and plans among neighboring municipalities. Communities can use the review to modify existing regulations to more accurately reflect local desires, and work with neighboring municipalities to develop a regional regulatory approach towards natural resource concerns. What Does NRCS Offer?Technical review and analysis of municipal regulations, policies, and plans. What is an Example of a Municipal Regulations Review?EIGHT MILE RIVER WATERSHED, CT – The intent of the municipal environmental regulations review is to document how the Towns of East Haddam, Lyme, and Salem are currently dealing with issues related to growth, and their potential impact on each community’s natural resources. This information will help the Wild and Scenic River Study Committee to understand and communicate the relationship between the planning and implementation process of the municipalities, keeping in mind the outstanding resource values of water quantity, water quality, habitat quality and intactness, cultural/historic resources, and scenic resources. Each community will be able to assess how well its existing regulations support the vision outlined in the municipal plan of conservation and development. In addition, the review will help communities identify regional similarities and differences in regulatory approaches and develop strategies to implement appropriate regional approaches to natural resources management concerns.
