Horse Environmental Awareness Program

Photo depicting River's Edge Farm as a Horse Farm of Environmental Distinction 1999, 2000, 2001.The King's Mark Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area continues to coordinate the Horse Environmental Awareness Program (HEAP).  In 2002, a demonstration farm displaying properly installed Best Management Practices was completed.  A successful workshop, along with a ribbon cutting ceremony took place in October.

Also in 2002, work began on a second video on how to install Best Management Practices.  Shooting will resume in May 2003, and the video is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Horse Environmental Awareness Program continued in 2003.  Following the application period (which ended February 1, 2003), judges visited applicants' farms and judged them on how well they manage horses to protect the environment.  Winners received a 2' x 3' sign that can be displayed at the entrance to their farm.
