Timber Bridge Projects

Timber bridge on a crane, being lowered into place. Two of three bridges were installed in the Fall of 2002 with funds obtained from the US Forest Service's Wood In Transportation Program.  The third and final bridge will be installed in the Spring of 2003.

The first bridge was installed October 9, 2002, over the Pequonnock River in Fairfield County.  The bridge spans 29 feet, and was set on the existing abutments of an old railroad that was abandoned 30 years ago.  The Towns of Trumbull and Monroe provided engineering services and abutment rehabilitation.  The bridge is located near the town line.

The second bridge was installed October 17, 2002, over the Shelton Reservoir Dam, also in Fairfield County.  The bridge spans 50 feet, and is a high profile component of the Shelton Lakes Greenway Trail System that links the Industrial Age area of the town to the Colonial Green area.
